NEW YORK, NEW YORK – APRIL 15: Nika Muhl arrives prior to the 2024 WNBA Draft at Brooklyn Academy of … [+]
Croatian women’s basketball star Nika Mühl has signed a multi-year deal with Under Armour, the brand announced. As part of the agreement, Mühl will serve as a brand ambassador and wear Under Armour and Curry Brand sneakers during the upcoming WNBA season.
She joins a roster of female athletes that includes Kelsey Plum, Marina Mabrey, Diamond Miller and MiLaysia Fulwiley.
“Having grown up watching their athletes, I have seen how they really invest in them, letting them have their own vision but also helping them to grow and support their work,” Mühl said in a statement. “I wanted to be a part of it, and thankfully, I am now and I am very excited to collaborate with them on new ideas and use with our collective platforms to have an impact beyond basketball.”
The news confirms Mühl’s popularity among fans despite a rocky start to her professional career.
“Secretary of Defense”
Mühl became a fan favorite in college as a standout at the University of Connecticut, where she became the school’s all-time career assist leader (686). Her playmaking ability was evident as she also set the single-season and single-game assist records and logged the most double-digit assist games by a Husky.
With a defensive prowess that earned her the nickname of “Secretary of Defense,” Mühl established herself as a key element of a roster that counted with names such as Paige Buckers and Azzi Fudd.
Perhaps her most outstanding defensive performance came in the 2024 Final Four against Iowa, when she held superstar Caitlin Clark to only 21 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the three-point line. UConn fell short of qualifying for the Finals, but the point guard performance is now ingrained in women’s college basketball fans’ brain.

Off the court, Mühl’s authenticity and fearless style of play made her a beloved figure in the UConn community. Her charisma and outgoing nature made her a favorite in interviews and social media interactions, where she often showcased her sense of humor—especially in her friendship with Bueckers, whom she calls her “twin.”
As an international player from Croatia, she also represented the growing global influence in women’s college basketball, drawing support from fans beyond the United States.
A bumpy ride
Drafted 14th overall by the Seattle Storm in 2024, the point guard spent most of her rookie year on the bench, averaging 3.6 minutes and 0.1 points per game. Her lone WNBA basket didn’t come until the team’s final regular season matchup against the Phoenix Mercury.
Following the conclusion of the WNBA season, Mühl joined Beşiktaş J.K. in Turkey, where she was expected to earn more playing time. But things didn’t go as planned.
In her first overseas commitment—a matchup between Turkish powerhouses Beşiktaş J.K. and Fenerbahçe Opet for the SuperCup Women title—Mühl suffered an ACL tear with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.
Currently recovering in Seattle, it remains unclear whether she will play in 2025.

Despite seeing limited action on the court, Mühl is one of the most popular players on the Seattle Storm. With more than half a million Instagram followers, she is among the most followed players on the team. Her tunnel fits made her the first rookie to be featured in the League Fits All-WNBA First Team and earned her the title of Best-Dressed Rookie by GQ.
Mühl’s fashion choices mirror the boldness she displays on the court—fearless, unapologetic, and effortlessly cool. Her ability to pair accessories, especially sunglasses, with her stylish outfits has become a signature look, adding an extra layer of confidence to her already striking presence. Whether she’s rocking oversized shades with a sleek suit or mixing streetwear with statement pieces, Mühl’s style is a perfect extension of her personality: daring, expressive and always ahead of the curve.
