The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Film Awards—BAFTAs for short—is this weekend, just weeks ahead of the 2025 Oscars on March 2.
The papal thriller Conclave leads the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards nominations with 12, while the musical crime drama Emilia Pérez is next with 11 and the historical epic The Brutalist follows with nine.
Unlike the Oscars—which have 10 Best Picture nominees—there are only five BAFTA Best Film nominees. This year the nominees are Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave and Emilia Pérez.
The BAFTAs also have a Best British Film category, which has 10 nominees. Those vying for the Best British Film honor are Bird, Blitz, Conclave, Gladiator II, Hard Truths, Kneecap, Lee, Love Lies Bleeding, The Outrun and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
Actor David Tennant is hosting the 2025 BAFTAs, which will be handed out at the Royal Festival Hall in Lond on Sunday.
The only way to watch the ceremony in the U.S. is via streaming on the British platform BritBox. The 2025 BAFTAs begin at 2 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT in the U.S. The monthly subscription price for BritBox is $8.99, but the platform is currently offering the service for $9 for three months to new subscribers.

Who Are The Major Acting And Directing Nominees At The 2025 BAFTAs?
While the BAFTAs have long been heralded as the British Oscars, winning the coveted trophy does not automatically guarantee a win. For example, only two films that won the Best Film BAFTA—2020’s Nomadland and 2023’s Oppenheimer—have gone on to win the Best Picture Oscar.
As such, the playing field appears to be leveled for Anora, which gained considerable awards season momentum last weekend when it won Best Picture at the Producers Guild and Critics Choice Awards, and Best Director for Sean Baker at the Director Guild of America Awards.
Also, unlike the Oscars, the BAFTAs nominate six performers each in all of its acting categories, as well as Best Director.
The BAFTA nominees for Best Leading Actor are Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Hugh Grant (Heretic) and Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice). All but Grant were nominated for a Best Actor Oscar.
In the running for Best Leading Actress are Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance) and Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun). All but Jean-Baptiste and Ronan were nominated for Best Actress for the 2025 Oscars, while Fernanda Torress (I’m Still Here) was nominated instead.
In the Best Director category, the BAFTA nominees are Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance) and Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two). Berger and Villeneuve missed the Best Director cut in the 2025 Oscar nominations, while James Mangold (A Complete Unknown) got a nomination instead.
The 2025 BAFTAs begin at 2 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT in the U.S. and are streaming live on BritBox.
